Santorum's Actions
Meanwhile, while talking about an amendment which did not get adopted, in December 2005 (Roll Call Vote #363, S.1932, 12/21/2005, passed 50-50 with the Vice President casting the tie-breaking vote in favor), Santorum cast the decisive vote which, by 2010, would prevent as many as 255,000 children in working families nationally from getting child care support.
A recent survey by the U.S. Census Bureau showed that employed mothers spend $400-$500 a month for child care. As a result of this budget, Pennsylvania would receive only $37.58 per month per family, while at the same time drastically increasing the proportion of parents who must participate in TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) work activities.
